'Tis the season for Asheville Christmas Mini Sessions! It's my favorite time of the year and I'm always totally over the moon to get to see my regular clients and their sweet little families every season. If you are looking for an Asheville family photographer that you can trust to capture your holiday moments, I'm so ready to show you how our mini process works in hopes of working with you in the near future. Below are photos from the 2021 & 2022 Asheville Christmas Mini Sessions we photographed- already looking forward to next year!

Asheville Christmas Mini Sessions

I've been so incredibly blessed to have such a strong family session clientele in the Asheville and outskirts areas. Although some families do come from Boone and Eastern Tennessee as well! Most of my regulars are located in Asheville or right outside Asheville in Burnsville, NC. The photos taken below (with the gorgeous mountain views!) were taken in Burnsville. It's a short drive from the city but you get all of the best views and properties. In fact, my husband and I got married in this exact spot facing the Blue Ridge Mountains. There is no better location to us!

Mini Session Tips

Okay, you've booked your mini session spot, now what? If this is your first time booking a Mini, here are some of my biggest tips to help along the process.

  • Book in advance- As soon as your favorite photographer announces their minis, book them ASAP. My smaller sessions like these almost always book up months in advance, and within 24 hours of announcing my time slots. The demand for them is so incredibly high. And personally, I know that I can only take on so many sessions due to workload. So if you have your eye on a setup or photographer you like, plan on booking that as soon as the details are released. Believe me, we wish we could make it happen for everyone! But we're only one person!

  • Neutrals, probably- As far as outfits go, choosing neutral is almost always the best decision. But truthfully, it depends on the setup you are attending. As a photographer myself, I book family photos quarterly and that always includes an Asheville Christmas Mini Session with one of my many photog friends! I always ask what the setup is expected to be like because I like to plan our outfits accordingly.
  1. For example, if the session is on a farm, I wouldn't wear the same outfit I would wear if the session were on a rooftop garage downtown. Details matter! But, neutrals are always a safe bet and I tend to recommend those to my clients.

  • Don't be afraid to bring the pups- Seriously, I will never, ever say no to my clients bringing their dogs with them to their sessions. Your pets are family, too! I know that mine are and I enjoy getting to meet them and play with them during our time together.

  • Pick your time slot according to your kiddos schedules- This one seems to be something people tend to forget! When you are booking your slot, be sure to take your child's nap schedule into consideration. You want them to feel their best and if you are pushing nap time, they may not be up to the action.

  • Always show up on time- Myself, and most other photographers, typically schedule time slots in 30 minute or less increments. That means that there is no time for any funny business in between each session! It's always a plus that everyone shows up on time (or early for bonus points!) so that the day can go smoothly.

  • Minis do not include extended family- The unspoken rule, that I will happy speak about. Extended family photo sessions are extremely complicated and anything past 5-6 people warrants far more than just 10 images. If you are interested in doing an extended session, just reach out to the photographer of your choice and schedule it for another available day!
