A Hidden Artist’s Retreat in Western North Carolina
Tucked away on 22 acres of lush woodlands at 872 Freemantown Road in Rutherfordton, House Boheme is a secluded sanctuary for couples craving something beyond the typical wedding venue. Carefully designed by artists, this property merges dramatic architecture with the rugged beauty of the Blue Ridge foothills. Imagine a space that is not a blank canvas-but already a masterpiece, waiting for your love story to breathe life into it.
What sets House Boheme apart? It’s not your grandmother’s country-chic barn. This is a bold, maximalist statement—brass accents, layered textures, velvet furnishings, and tropical plantings all mingling with Appalachian greenery to create an immersive, story-rich setting. Every nook feels intentional, cinematic even, so your wedding doesn’t rely on rented décor-the venue is your décor.
One of our favorite things about this venue is all the hand-crafted details. Artistry, especially locally, is extremely important to the owners, Coco and Emerson.

Celebratory Spaces That Feel Both Grand & Personal
With space to host up to 150+ guests, House Boheme offers flexibility for intimate elopements or weekend-long celebrations (which just so happens to be our specialty). Outdoors, a ceremony lawn surrounded by fruit trees, lush gardens, and tropical greenery sets the stage for heartfelt vows. Indoors, airy rooms defined by high ceilings and walls of windows let natural light flood in-and showcase the panoramic mountain views. I make any excuse I can to show up and hang out with them!
One of my favorite features is the on-site accommodations. House Boheme isn’t just a venue-you and your chosen guests can stay for the weekend, sleep under the canopy of stars, and truly escape into the celebration. It’s like gathering at a private mountain villa rather than a rented hall-a weekend retreat that feels like an extension of your wedding. This is something that is really important to most of our clients and that’s why it’s one of our top venue recs to our couples.

House Boheme is run by Coco and her team-an artistic team who transitioned the property from a private artist retreat to a full-on wedding haven . Their passion is stitching your story into the very textures and layouts of the space. As Jess Reedy, a local ceramics artist, shared of her own event:
“The mountain views and tree topped skyline were breathtaking… Mother Nature is the showstopper.” House Boheme
Coco’s approach is hands-on and deeply personal: no cookie-cutter packages, only ceremonies designed to lift the couple’s personality into the architecture itself. So many incredible handmade touches. Including the dinner plates that are hand crafted by Coco’s cousin. We are obsessed.

Why It Resonates with the Creative Couple
If you’re craving a wedding that refuses typical tropes-no burlap table runners, no mason jar décor, no “just fill it in” mentality-House Boheme delivers. The venue speaks in artful textures, bold combinations, and rich layers. Here, your celebration becomes part of the venue’s ongoing story, one that honors earth tones, dramatic lighting, and natural flourishes. There is just something so magnetic and grounded about this place. As a wedding photographer who cherishes these types of weddings, I am so drawn to it.
